OpenAI's GPT-4.5 research preview will launch to Pro users at first

· 2 min read

Earlier this month, Sam Altman communicated the model release roadmap, highlighting that the next general model, GPT-4.5, will be released soon. GPT-4.5 is also known as the model with the codename Orion.

Today, there have been some reports from users who were seeing a new tooltip on the Android application, which presumably was unintentionally pushed to these users. The notification says:

Try the GPT-4.5 Research Preview

"Pro users now have access to our newest, largest model."

This tooltip was very likely pushed ahead of the upcoming launch. Based on the context from the notification, it’s likely possible that it will only arrive to Pro users at first, while it was expected that it will be available to Plus users as well at the same time.

In regards to the timeline, it’s also unclear when exactly it will be arriving, considering that OpenAI is only now preparing apps to support the 4.5. We’ll likely need to wait a little bit longer. There has been no official announcement or confirmation on this topic yet. Some rumors suggest that it may already be released this week, while some other rumors suggest that it will require more than two weeks until we will see it in fact.

Let’s see how it unfolds 👀

OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research organization founded in 2015 with the mission to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. One of its most notable creations is ChatGPT, a conversational AI model launched in November 2022. ChatGPT is designed to generate human-like text based on the input it receives, enabling it to assist with a wide range of tasks, from answering questions to drafting essays. Its versatility and accessibility have made it a popular tool for both individuals and businesses seeking to leverage AI capabilities.
