OpenAI has finally released advanced voice mode to European users, and it’s now available without a VPN. This release was delayed by a couple of months as OpenAI worked to align with European regulations around the AI Act. So far, advanced voice mode is only available on mobile devices. It hasn’t been released on desktop apps, whether for Mac, Windows, or the web. However, the release to desktop apps is expected to come later. Currently, this functionality is hidden behind feature flags but is already working quite well.

It remains unclear if the web version will receive this feature at all. Despite this, there have been some very minor updates introducing new SVG icons to the web codebase. Interestingly, one of these icons apparently looked like the letter “O.” Following rumors about OpenAI potentially planning to change their logo, this could be related. However, there’s still a significant chance that it’s just a simple button to be used elsewhere.
