OpenAI is preparing a series of updates to its web application. The first feature, previously rolled out to a limited group of alpha testers, is known internally as "Moonshine" or more publicly as "improved memory." This feature enables ChatGPT to recall past conversations, making interactions more context-aware over time.

A new announcement and promotional pop-up has been added to the web app to introduce this feature. It provides an example of how users might use it by saying: “Describe me based on all our chats. Make it catchy.” This instructs ChatGPT to use memory to generate a personalized description. A similar capability was previously released by Gemini under the name "Recall," serving the same purpose. Now, it’s OpenAI’s turn to bring this functionality to more users.

In addition to memory, OpenAI is working on a notification feed. This new section will allow users to revisit past announcements and learn about newly added features. It’s a small but meaningful addition that will help users stay informed and up to date.

There have also been reports from some users seeing a new “Whisper” button on the web. This feature enables voice dictation and has already been available on mobile and desktop apps for some time. Its appearance on the web hints that voice input may soon be rolled out more widely for browser users as well.

Lastly, OpenAI continues to work on a “reasoning slider.” This will let users choose how much effort the model should put into completing a task, with options such as “automatic,” “think a little,” and “think harder.” These settings roughly correspond to the current o3-mini, o3-mini-high, and similar options found in the model selector. The goal is to simplify the experience for users who may not be familiar with the technical differences between model types.

At this point, none of these new ChataGPT features are fully available, aside from early reports of the Whisper button and Moonshine memory appearing for some users. However, more announcements and wider access are likely to follow in the coming weeks.
