ChatGPT is gearing up to integrate SearchGPT into its core product. In the latest web release, there were traces of a reference to a Chrome extension that has been previously available on the standalone SearchGPT prototype. Additionally, there will be a related announcement on the ChatGPT UI itself, where instead of SearchGPT, it will refer directly to ChatGPT. It’s yet unclear when this integration will roll out to users, though it seems to be progressing.
However, the extension mentioned above is still referring to the old SearchGPT prototype. If OpenAI intends to release it alongside Search, it would need to be updated first. Given that this would also require a separate announcement, it’s likely the extension’s release would not happen simultaneously with the main SearchGPT integration.
On a smaller note, OpenAI announced that Advanced Voice Mode is finally available to free users in Europe. Previously, this feature was limited to free users outside of the EU, but it has now expanded further.
In terms of updates, there have also been some new additions to searching across chats. OpenAI is currently testing a separate pop-up that performs local indexing in the background, allowing users to seamlessly search through their existing chats in a dedicated UI view.
