Recently, OpenAI released its SearchGPT integration into the core ChatGPT product. This feature is now available across all the apps on desktop, mobile, and web. As noted earlier, users can toggle the icon to switch to the search mode and observe enhanced widgets for weather, stock prices, and more. The feature became available globally to all Plus subscribers. The official announcement states that it will be made available to free users later. However, there have been reports of users on free accounts gaining access to this feature in a similar manner as seen in past rollouts. This suggests that the feature may gradually roll out to free users over the next couple of months.

In addition, the official SearchGPT extension has been updated and now points to the OpenAI website. The name, description, and images have been refreshed, clearly stating that it is an extension for ChatGPT Search. Many users have compared this new tool with Perplexity, with the majority concluding that Perplexity is still superior when it comes to search capabilities.

However, there are also scenarios where ChatGPT’s search feature doesn’t perform as expected. For instance, searching for news from TestingCatalog might return a list of articles properly, but asking for the latest AI news from TestingCatalog could result in a refusal to provide information.
