OpenAI has introduced a new beta feature for ChatGPT called Tasks, enabling the AI chatbot to handle scheduled actions and reminders. This feature is available starting January 14, 2025, for users subscribed to the Plus, Pro, and Teams plans. Tasks allow users to schedule one-time or recurring activities, such as daily weather updates, weekly news briefings, or reminders for personal events. The feature aims to position ChatGPT as a proactive digital assistant, comparable to tools like Siri or Alexa but leveraging OpenAI's advanced language processing capabilities.

To use the feature, users must select the "4o with scheduled tasks" option in the model picker and provide instructions in natural language. Tasks can be managed through a dedicated section in the ChatGPT web interface or directly within chat threads. Notifications are sent across web, desktop, and mobile platforms when tasks are completed. However, during the beta phase, task management is limited to the web interface, and users can only have up to ten active tasks at a time.

The rollout of Tasks marks a significant step in transforming ChatGPT from a reactive conversational tool into a more comprehensive AI assistant capable of executing scheduled actions autonomously. OpenAI is using this beta phase to gather feedback and refine the feature before expanding it to all ChatGPT users, including those on free plans.
