Recently, it has been spotted that OpenAI is working on one of the most requested features that would allow users to organize their chats and conversations better. This feature is called Projects, which sounds similar to projects that Anthropic offers through Claude.

There is a new tooltip that will appear to users when it becomes available, saying that users can organize their chats and custom instructions in one place called Projects. This button will appear on a sidebar below the pinned GPTs. After clicking, users will be offered to name their project, and then it will appear in the Project UI afterwards.

According to Tibor, who spotted this feature earlier, these projects will be based on top of existing solutions for custom GPTs. It’s yet unclear if those will be related to each other or if they will work independently.

Overall, many people have been requesting folders for their chats from OpenAI because it was very challenging to manage chats through the history and search features alone. It is very likely we will see Projects being released within the 12 Days of OpenAI event, which is currently ongoing. It seems like the OpenAI team is gearing up for the release of this feature already.
