OpenAI continues to refine its system hints, especially for search functionality. Recent experiments include adding a more prominent search button to the ChatGPT text input field. Selecting this button opens a new widget, indicating that the next prompt will use the forced search feature. While it’s similar to the existing system hint that uses a slash command, it introduces a new user interface and a pop-up introduction. This is likely done to promote the feature among users.

This update aligns with OpenAI’s plan to integrate their new SearchGPT prototype into the main product. However, it currently still relies on the existing Bing search index and doesn’t have access to real-time data. Behind the scenes, there’s also work on refining the homepage layout, with the prompt bar placed in the middle—similar to how it works for Search GPT.
