Google has introduced a new feature to its AI-powered research tool, NotebookLM, called "Convert Notes to Source." This feature is designed to streamline the process of organizing and synthesizing user-generated notes into a single, cohesive source for easier reference and advanced AI interactions.
The New Feature: Convert Notes to Source
This feature allows users to combine their notes into a unified "source" within NotebookLM. Users can choose to convert all their notes or manually select specific ones. The resulting source is formatted with each note separated by dividers and automatically assigned a title like "All notes [date]." This consolidated source can be used for various purposes:
- AI Focus: The AI can analyze both the original sources and the consolidated notes simultaneously, improving its ability to provide contextually relevant responses.
- Citations: Inline citations in AI responses link directly to passages from the converted source, making it easier to trace information back to specific notes.
- Backup: Users can copy the text from the consolidated source and save it in other applications for safekeeping.
How It Works
The feature is accessible at the top of an open notebook, next to the "Add Note" button. To use it:
- Open a notebook in NotebookLM.
- Click "Convert Notes to Source."
- Select all or specific notes for conversion.
- The tool generates a single source document with dividers between notes.
