New Harmony folder feature in development for Claude AI

Anthropic seems to be working on enabling the Harmony feature for individual chats. The new feature has been spotted in development and would appear as a new folder icon on the homepage when you are about to start a chat. This folder button opens a pop-up that is still in progress, as it currently only shows placeholders.

Clicking on the “Next” button allows you to select a folder with the local codebase. Once selected, the folder is added as a chip, and it’s already possible to ask Claude specific questions about this codebase. However, the implementation does not seem to be finalized yet. In my experience, I got rate-limited quickly when testing the feature.

It appears that Claude makes a significant number of API calls to transfer data, suggesting it might become possible to upload folders with larger codebases in the future. These larger codebases could potentially exceed the context window by leveraging Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), although this is not yet confirmed.

Interestingly, Google recently released a similar feature, allowing users to add folders containing a codebase to a chat conversation. For projects, however, the folder feature becomes disabled since there is a separate Harmony feature currently available only to Enterprise and Team accounts.

The timeline for when this functionality will be finalized and rolled out to all Claude users remains unclear. Nonetheless, it seems that this feature will require substantial development effort from Anthropic.
