The Google announcement for the Gemini updates page was released just before the official announcement on X. This time, as expected, there were three different announcements.
First, the release of Gemini 1.5 Flash was highlighted. This update is significant because it now powers Gemini by default on three accounts and provides a longer context window with 32,000 tokens. While this is still not a lot, it is an improvement over Gemini 1 Pro. Users should already have access to this model; if you ask Gemini on a free account which model it is powered by, it will confirm that it’s Gemini Flash 1.5. Additionally, this version should be faster than the previous one, making it the most significant update among the three.
The second announcement is about related content in Gemini’s responses. In addition to links, it now shows cards linking to contextual URLs from the response. However, this feature doesn’t work well for all queries and websites, making it a relatively minor change.
The third announcement pertains to Gemini on Google Messages, which will now be rolled out in Europe. This is a positive development, but it is not available on all devices and has limited use.
