Anthropic appears to be quietly introducing a new feature called “code-in-painting” to their Claude AI artifacts in the cloud. This feature, discovered through reverse engineering a couple of weeks ago, enables users to interact with specific pieces of code through a pop-up widget offering two distinct options: “Explain” and “Improve.”

  1. Explain Option: This option provides an explanation of the selected piece of code directly in the main window, detailing what it does and how it works.
  2. Improve Option: This option allows users to input a new prompt to modify only the selected piece of code within the artifact. Afterward, Claude AI generates an updated version of the artifact.

This feature is particularly valuable for those using Claude AI for coding purposes. Looking ahead, additional features might be introduced, such as the ability to synchronize artifacts and projects with local folders or even GitHub.
