Microsoft has introduced the "Think Deeper" feature to its Copilot platform, enabling advanced reasoning capabilities for users. Initially launched in October 2024 as part of Copilot Labs for Pro users, this feature is now available to free-tier users on Android, iOS, and the web. However, its availability comes with strict usage limits, which have sparked mixed reactions from the community.
The "Think Deeper" feature leverages OpenAI's o1 reasoning model to tackle complex problems by providing detailed, step-by-step responses. It is designed for tasks requiring deep analysis, such as solving intricate math problems, creating personalized plans, or evaluating multiple scenarios. Users can activate the feature via a three-dot menu near the send button in the Copilot interface and toggle between reasoning and non-reasoning modes. While it delivers robust insights, its processing time is longer compared to standard Copilot responses.
Today we’ve made Think Deeper free and available for all users of Copilot.

Free users are limited to three queries per week, while Pro subscribers face variable limits based on server capacity and concurrent usage. These constraints have led to frustration among some users, particularly those who expected unrestricted access with paid subscriptions. Despite this, many have reported that the feature functions effectively within its limits.
Microsoft's decision to extend "Think Deeper" on Copilot to free users aligns with its broader strategy of democratizing AI tools while maintaining a competitive edge against platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. This move also reflects Microsoft's focus on integrating advanced AI capabilities into its ecosystem, including productivity tools like Word and Excel.
The company has not yet commented on whether it will adjust usage limitations in response to user feedback. However, it continues to monitor engagement with "Think Deeper" as part of its iterative approach to refining AI features within Copilot Labs.
