Google tests customizable prompts and writing guides for NotebookLM

Google is working on system prompt support for its NotebookLM product. It appears there will be a new settings section specific to each Notebook, allowing users to set up a custom prompt and a style guide. The custom prompt offers certain selections, and titles suggest this feature may specify the user persona, potentially influencing the persona of the guest on the audio overview podcast, which would be a great addition. The style guide likely defines the writing style for chat output, and it may also have an effect on the audio overview.

Additionally, Google continues to develop a bot solution where users can create a chatbot for a specific Notebook that will have access to its knowledge base. Recent hints indicate users will be able to see created bots on the home page alongside Notebooks, with options to filter and view only the bots. While this feature hasn’t evolved much, it was noted that the current solution is somewhat outdated, and Google already has a newer version ready.

This project will be especially interesting given the recent announcement that NotebookLM will be available for business. These chatbots could be shared with others, allowing access to the same sources and prompts to enhance collaborative work.
