Today, we expect that Google will release something new related to Gemini, with several strong signals pointing in that direction. Let’s walk through all of them to analyze what could possibly happen.

First of all, last week, Google released Gemini 2.0 Flash on the web to all users on January 28. This release date was also spotted in the code beforehand. Shortly after the launch, most users expected Google to release Gemini 2.0 Pro, a long-awaited model, but that didn’t happen.

This week, some users noticed that the FAQ support page for pricing had been updated to mention Gemini Pro 2.0. After gaining traction on social media, this change was reverted the same day.

Additionally, during Google’s Q4 earnings call, Sundar Pichai mentioned that Gemini 2.0 Flash would become available to developers globally on February 5, along with other model updates—though he did not specify what these updates would include.

Shortly after the earnings call, the web version of Gemini was updated with two new placeholders in the changelog: one dated February 3 and another for February 10. The February 3 update was related to an Imagen 3 upgrade, which had been announced earlier but only reached full general availability on that date. The February 10 placeholder could also be related to the general availability of other releases.

For example:

  1. Gemini Flash 2.0 has now become available on mobile.
  2. Deep Research with 1.5 Pro is gradually rolling out to Android users.

So, the February 10 changelog entry could be related to one of these releases.

Beyond that, in Gemini’s codebase, there was a mention of a February 5 launch, similar to how January 28 was referenced for the release of Gemini Flash 2.0. This means several possibilities for what could be launched today.

One strong possibility is the introduction of a new model because the codebase includes a tooltip highlighting that a “new model” was added to the dropdown selector. This could mean two things:

  1. Gemini 2.0 Pro – a long-awaited model, with a high chance of being released today (though not 100% certain).
  2. A new version of Flash 2.0 with thinking process capabilities, which was previously available in AI Studio and may now come to Gemini Web.

If the latter is true, this model will likely expose its own chain of thought, similar to how ChatGPT or DeepSeek handle their reasoning. Potentially, it could also integrate with other Gemini features, such as Saved Info and more.

Even though, at TestingCatalog, I would love to see Gemini 2.0 Pro released today, It is still possible that we’ll see Flash 2.0 with Thinking instead. Let’s see—it’s going to happen very soon!
