Google has launched Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, adding near real-time visual presence to its live conversational AI for enterprise users. Available now in Gemini Enterprise, the feature combines native dialogue, low-latency streaming video, and simultaneous audio and visual input so an agent can listen, see, and speak through a responsive onscreen persona. It arrives after last week's Gemini 3.8 Live release and is intended for uses such as customer service and guided walkthroughs.
The avatar uses precise lip-syncing, natural facial expressions, and fluid turn-taking to make conversations feel more like face-to-face exchanges. Google's demonstrations show several avatar characters, a near-real-time conversation, a hotel check-in supported by background tool calls, and a switch between languages during the same conversation.
Live Avatar can call tools and retrieve data asynchronously while continuing to talk, allowing an enterprise agent to handle a task without disappearing from the conversation. In the hotel example, the visual persona can remain present while information needed for check-in is fetched behind the scenes.
Google says its native multilingual speech-to-speech synchronization covers 97 languages. Lip movements and expressions adapt as the spoken language changes, and the system is designed to move between languages without a loss in video fidelity or visible drift.

Companies can choose from a library of preset avatars or create a branded character from a high-quality reference image. Google says the resulting avatar can preserve the source likeness, visual styling, or character identity while becoming fully animated and responsive. Custom avatar creation is more restricted than the core product and currently requires enterprise allowlisting.
Google's Gemini Audio Team developed Live Avatar as an extension of Gemini 3.8 Live, natively coupling the model's dialogue capabilities with low-latency video. The release also includes safeguards intended to respect identity, while SynthID watermarking is embedded in both audio and video output. Google says the imperceptible marker is meant to keep AI-generated material detectable and reduce misinformation or misattribution. The company points enterprise developers to its model card and API documentation for deployment guidance.
