ElevenLabs has recently expanded its Reader app globally, offering support for 32 languages and hundreds of high-quality AI voices. The app, which can read aloud text from various sources such as PDFs, articles, and novels, is now available worldwide on both iOS and Android platforms. It includes a new scan feature that allows users to read text from images, along with support for ePubs, PDFs, and web pages.
The Reader app is powered by ElevenLabs' Turbo 2.5 model, which promises higher-quality and lower-latency conversational AI. This model has improved the speed of text-to-speech conversion, making English 25% faster and other languages like Hindi, French, Spanish, Mandarin, and 27 others three times faster.
Users can download the app for free, with the first three months offering 10,000 credits per month. After this period, various plans are available, including a free version and a $99-per-month Pro version with 500,000 credits.
ElevenLabs, a startup that became a unicorn after raising $80 million from investors, provides an API for companies to use in various applications such as dubbing or text-to-speech. The Reader app is its first consumer-facing product, competing with other apps like Speechify, which offers additional features like scanning documents and cloning user voices.
The company plans to add more features to the app, including offline support and the ability to share audio snippets. This expansion and the addition of new voices, including those of celebrities like Judy Garland and James Dean, aim to enhance user experience and accessibility.
