ElevenLabs has launched GenFM, a new feature integrated into its ElevenReader app, designed to transform user-uploaded content into personalized, AI-generated podcasts. This feature, available on iOS with an Android waitlist, allows users to upload various content types—such as PDFs, articles, eBooks, YouTube videos, and other documents—to generate podcasts featuring two AI co-hosts. These co-hosts are tailored to the content and employ ultra-realistic voices to create an engaging audio experience.
GenFM supports 32 languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Portuguese. The platform emphasizes natural-sounding conversations by incorporating human-like elements such as pauses, "umms," laughter, and breathing. This approach aims to mimic the flow of real-life dialogue while maintaining clarity and utility. Users can choose from over a dozen AI voices for their podcasts.
The feature is particularly versatile in its applications:
- Summarizing news across industries like tech and politics
- Discussing literature or study materials
- Providing audio storytelling for leisure activities like commuting or exercising
ElevenLabs plans to expand GenFM’s capabilities by introducing more customization options and allowing users to combine multiple sources for richer podcast content.
The company positions GenFM as a competitor to tools like Google’s NotebookLM, which also generates AI-driven dialogues from user-provided sources. ElevenLabs’ focus on accessibility and multilingual support aims to broaden its appeal globally. The app's launch aligns with the company’s broader growth strategy, including a recent $11 million investment in Poland’s startup ecosystem and expansion into India.
