Google has introduced a new feature called "Discover sources" in its AI-powered tool, NotebookLM. This addition allows users to find and add relevant web-based information to their notebooks, enhancing the tool's functionality for tasks like research, planning, and note-taking. Previously, users had to manually upload their sources, but this new feature streamlines the process by leveraging AI to curate relevant content.

When users tap the "Discover" button within NotebookLM, they can describe a topic of interest. The system then analyzes hundreds of web sources in seconds and provides up to 10 curated recommendations, each accompanied by an annotated summary explaining its relevance. Users can import these sources into their notebooks with a single click and utilize other NotebookLM features such as Briefing Docs, FAQs, and Audio Overviews. The imported sources remain accessible for further exploration, note-taking, and citation purposes. Additionally, a playful "I'm Feeling Curious" button generates random topics for users to explore.

This feature is powered by Google's Gemini AI model and is part of a broader effort to integrate advanced AI capabilities into NotebookLM. The rollout began on April 2, 2025, and will be completed within approximately one week. It is available to all NotebookLM users through the platform's web interface.

NotebookLM is part of Google's broader initiative to enhance productivity tools with AI. Initially launched as an experimental product under Google Labs, it aims to assist users in organizing and understanding information more efficiently. By incorporating web-based source discovery, Google positions NotebookLM as a versatile tool for researchers, students, and professionals seeking quick access to curated knowledge.
