Claude Max subscription offers high-usage and priority features for $100–$200 a month

Anthropic has officially launched the Max plan for its AI chatbot, Claude, targeting power users who require significantly higher usage allowances. This new subscription tier comes in two pricing options: $100 per month for five times the usage of the Pro plan and $200 per month for twenty times the usage. The Max plan is available globally in all regions where Claude operates, and users can upgrade via the Anthropic website.

The Max plan was introduced in response to feedback from users who frequently hit the limits of existing subscriptions. It is designed for professionals who rely on Claude for tasks such as extended conversations, handling large documents, and managing tight deadlines. Subscribers also gain priority access to new features and models, including a forthcoming voice mode. While Anthropic has not disclosed exact usage metrics, it has clarified that message limits reset every five hours within "sessions," allowing at least 225 messages for the $100 tier and 900 messages for the $200 tier per session. However, exceeding 50 sessions per month may lead to restricted access.

Despite its potential benefits, the Max plan has received mixed reactions. Some users appreciate the expanded capabilities tailored for demanding workflows, while others criticize the session-based limitations and high costs. Comparisons have been drawn with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro plan, which offers similar pricing but includes an unlimited usage option. Users have also expressed concerns about vague definitions of "usage" and whether the plan justifies its cost given ongoing restrictions on conversation lengths and file uploads.

Anthropic's move reflects a broader trend in the generative AI market to monetize advanced language models through premium offerings.
