Claude is rolling out direct editing for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, giving teams two ways to work with the assistant across Google Workspace. A new Claude for Google Workspace add-on places Claude beside an open file, while beta connectors let it create and edit Google files from a Claude conversation. Both are now in public beta, with the add-on available across all paid Claude plans.
Inside Docs, Sheets, or Slides, Claude appears in a sidebar and can read the open file, understand selected text, cells, or slides, and make targeted changes. In Docs, it can revise a sentence or restyle a heading without disturbing nearby formatting. Larger rewrites can arrive as suggestion cards that identify the affected passage and can be applied or dismissed. A request can combine jobs, such as tightening an executive summary and turning next steps into a table.
Claude now works inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and those files also open inside Claude.

In Google Workspace, Claude sits in a sidebar next to your file, reads what you have open, and edits it in place. You can approve each edit before it lands. pic.twitter.com/se9wIS7vK1
Sheets support extends beyond formulas to pivot tables, native charts, and new tabs. Claude can move a range into Python for joins or data cleaning, then write the results back. Users can also begin with an empty spreadsheet, attach source files, and request a budget-versus-actuals report with team tabs, a summary chart, and flags for overspending. In Slides, Claude can build slides from the existing deck’s layouts and theme, then check for overlaps, off-slide elements, and hard-to-read text.
Controls determine how much happens automatically. “Ask before edits” is the default and presents each change on an approval card before Claude acts. “Accept all edits” lets it finish and apply a task without stopping. When signed in, the sidebar retains the user’s Claude models, connectors, and skills, enabling workflows such as pulling customer history from Salesforce and recent call notes from Google Drive for a QBR deck. Enterprise controls, including the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit export, also carry over.
The separate Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors suit work that starts in Claude or spans several files. Users can paste a Google file link or request a new file, which can open beside the conversation on supported setups, while access continues to follow existing Google sharing permissions. The add-on is installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace and opened through Extensions, Claude, Open Claude. Admins can deploy it by domain or group. Team and Enterprise owners must enable the connectors before members can edit Google files from Claude.
