OpenAI is working on a new feature called Tasks, which is expected to be released in beta during the 12 days of OpenAI. The Tasks feature will allow users to schedule certain prompts for later execution by ChatGPT. According to the information in the code, the maximum scheduled time will be up to two years in advance. Additionally, these scheduled tasks can potentially be repeated. For example, you could set a task to send AI news from TestingCatalog every morning.

This feature has a codename, Jawbone, and has been in development for some time. It is likely to be enabled at the model level, as models need to learn how to utilize this tool. There will also be a user interface where users can view, pause, delete, and edit their existing tasks. To add a new task, it seems users will be able to simply ask ChatGPT to create it without any extra hassle.

This feature will enable a variety of use cases, sparking creativity among users. Currently, ChatGPT can send push notifications to users, and it appears these notifications will be available on both web and mobile apps.

Interestingly, a similar feature is being developed by Google for Gemini, called Scheduled Prompts. This feature is still in development and has been for quite some time. However, it seems Google is preparing it for release, potentially in December as well. It will be interesting to see which company releases their feature first.
