ChatGPT Team gains internal knowledge access with Google Drive connector

· 1 min read

OpenAI is launching a beta version of internal knowledge integration for ChatGPT Team, allowing users to access real-time context from their workplace tools directly within conversations. The first connector being introduced is Google Drive integration, which includes Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

This new feature enables ChatGPT to automatically incorporate context from these tools, providing more relevant and personalized responses while respecting existing user permissions. The integration aims to help teams access context-rich answers without manually searching multiple tools, minimizing workflow disruptions and enhancing decision-making.

Key features of the Google Drive integration include:

  1. Semantic searches across large amounts of content from Google Docs and Slides
  2. Responses that include the most relevant and up-to-date context
  3. Direct links to the sources used, making it easy to verify information
  4. Intelligent determination of when to use internal sources for common prompts
  5. Manual selection of "Internal knowledge" in the message composer

To ensure data security and controlled access, only ChatGPT Team admins can connect their organization's Google Drive workspace to ChatGPT. The integration fully respects existing organization settings and permissions, meaning users will only see content they already have permission to view.

For small teams, users can configure connectors within their ChatGPT Team account once set up by an admin. Larger teams have more granular controls over which shared Google Drives ChatGPT can access.

OpenAI plans to roll out this beta to ChatGPT Team users over the next few weeks, with intentions to add more connectors and eventually expand to ChatGPT Enterprise. The company's vision is for ChatGPT to seamlessly integrate with hundreds of tools users rely on daily, including collaboration, project management, data analytics, and CRM systems.
