Character AI is testing a new feature called Stories, which will allow mobile users to set a custom prompt and select a character to generate a story on the related topic. This option will be available alongside other features like character creation, group chat, and more.
Users will be able to create a story by entering a prompt that describes what the story will be about, selecting a character, and triggering the generation. The resulting stories will appear as images with text overlays. These images resemble those generated by DALL-E 3, though this is still speculative.
As users swipe through the chapters of the story, Character AI will continue generating the next parts in real time. This dynamic storytelling format will allow users to swipe through chapters seamlessly. I wasn’t able to reach the end of a story yet, but it seems that as you swipe further, new content is generated.
The stories will be in vertical format, making them easy to share on popular social media apps like Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok, which are particularly popular among younger audiences. This feature fits well with Character AI’s overall concept and focus on interactive storytelling.
The release date for this feature is not yet clear, but based on its current state, it seems to be quite close to completion. It is currently in the closed beta testing phase.
