Anthropic is working on a new Customize Styles feature, which would allow users to create their own custom prompts and apply them to their conversations depending on the use case. Previously, this feature was discovered through Reverse Engineering and had appeared to a very small number of users, where the list of available styles was predefined with three options: default, concise, and full.
There was also a separate feature where users would be automatically switched to the concise option if they exceeded a certain limit to reduce the load and the number of outputs from Claude. However, this new iteration seems to be more advanced and will allow users to create their own styles.
In the new feature, there will be a customized icon next to the drop-down menu. After clicking it, users will see a list of their existing styles, which can be edited. Users will be able to modify the prompts applied to specific styles, and the same UI will also allow them to create new styles.
Interestingly, in this style creation UI, there is an option to upload files, and the description states that these files could contain examples. This potentially indicates that users will be able to upload examples of their writing styles, allowing Claude to adapt its responses accordingly. This feature would be particularly helpful for writers who currently need to manually prompt every time.
In general, this feature is still in development. Some people have noted that it seems analogous to gems in Gemini, as they also act as custom prompts. It will be interesting to see when this new Claude feature is officially released.
